J.B. Grant International Society Nicaragua Trip
Welcome to our home page! We are a group of 13 public health students at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health who have just returned from an exciting service trip to Siuna, Nicaragua! Our projects included piloting a reproductive health survey together with Salud Sín Límites, an NGO in Siuna, as well as conducting workshops for adolescent peer educators, midwives and rural healthcare workers. Pictures will be posted soon! Please take a moment to see who is participating, and please donate to our fundraising effort if you can! We are trying to raise funds to purchase notebooks and pencils for over 1,000 children in Siuna, Mulukukú and 48 surrounding communities. The link is under "Make a Donation". ¡Gracias por su generosidad!

On our last day, Salud Sín Límites put together a farewell celebration for our group. Feliciano Olivas Arteaga, one of the SSL promoters, composed and performed a song that he wrote for us. Here are the lyrics:
Gracias, Amigo(a) Thank You, Friend
Cada espacio en mi vida
Aprovecho cada día
Si es una oportunidad.
Si sueños tengo en mi vida
Busco cuáles son las vías
Por las que debo caminar.
Injusta es mi sociedad,
No encuentro oportunidad,
Con un mágico poder
Un cambio deseo ver.
Hoy el mundo es tan pequeño,
siento un gran calor humano,
y es momento de cambiar.
Son como luz en mi mente,
Las palabras de mi gente,
Que me impulsan a luchar.
El cambio quiero lograr,
Contigo puedo triunfar;
En ti puedo confiar,
Y mis metas podré alcanzar.
Gracias te doy,
Mi amigo, mi bien;
Tienes mi amistad,
Mi respeto también.
Con tu saber,
Prendiste en mí;
El mágico poder,
y hoy mejor puedo ser.

Our Team Members
Thank you so much for taking the time out to check out our website. My name is Susan and I am excited and honored to be able to have the experience to work with this great team out in Nicaragua. I think this is great opportunity as there's definitely a lot to be done out there as well as the chance for us to learn from the local community members and Bridges. Please consider supporting this trip. Thank you in advance for your donation. It will definitely make a difference!!
Thank you so much for visiting our website! My name is Teesha Thomas and I am so excited to be part of this hands-on experience with the people of Nicaragua and my fellow team members. As a neonatal intensive care nurse I am pleased at the chance to work on educational postnatal care workshops. This will be a wonderful public health adventure!
Thank you for taking time out to visit our website! I’m Therese and I’m one of the lucky 13 who are heading to Nicaragua to work with the people of Siuna. I think that the best opportunity to learn can be found in the hands-on experiences we create for ourselves, and I know that we’ll all learn so much from this collaboration with Bridges to Community. Already we have an awesome group of people who are actively participating in this planning this trip. With so many educational and experiential backgrounds from medical school to nursing, international experiences working and living abroad, the Peace Corps and research to name a few we’ll learn not only from our projects with the people of Nicaragua, but from one another as well. Thanks in advance for your contribution to our efforts!
Thanks for visting our site! We're all really looking forward to our trip this January and have been working really hard to make sure all the pieces fall into place. We just learned we will be involved with some adolescent sexual health projects which is especially exciting for me since I've spent time working in this field.
We hope you'll consider helping us raise funds. Thanks for checking out our website!
Hi and welcome to the site!
I'm Cindy, a student in the Masters of Public Health program, and one of the trip coordinators. It has been fantastic working with the other students on this trip, and working through the organization Bridges to Community. Through our planning and our public health training, we hope to accomplish many things in Siuna, Nicaragua, including interactive health education programs and assessments. Thanks for your interest and any support you can give!
Welcome and thanks for your interest in our service trip to Nicaragua! I'm one of the project coordinators, and am enjoying helping to put this project together. As the first team of public health student to be partnering with Bridges to Community, we're excited about the possibilities! Check out our progress as January draws closer, and please consider donating. Thanks!
